Setting:
Nyreen is a turian, one of a race of militaristic and influential aliens in a galaxy dominated by a Council of races. Turians are pretty prevalent within Council Space, the more law-abiding zone of the galaxy where the majority of alien homeworlds are; at least, those aliens who get along best with the laws of the Council. Turians are also fairly prevalent in the Terminus Systems, that distinctly less lawful area of space. Full of smugglers, mercenaries, and the galaxy's unwanted, the Terminus Systems have no real organization or unification, but at least one agreed-upon "heart": Omega. A space station built into an asteroid, what began as a mining operation turned into a hub of questionable activity. Anyone can find a place on Omega, but no one is really welcome. Most law comes from mercenary bands, whoever has the most firepower in one district or another, who can pay off the citizens living there the most handsomely. Omega's ruler by force is one Aria T'Loak a ruthless asari with a powerful merc syndicate to follow her every command, and a single, simple rule she imposes: don't mess with her.

Something destined to affect every corner of the galaxy was inevitable, though. Every fifty thousand years or so, that force is the Reapers, a race of sentient spaceships with the ultimate goal of harvesting and thus destroying all advanced organic life. As expected, any race represented by the Council is advanced enough to expect this fate, although the beginning stages of the war against the Reapers indicated that they do not accept this fate. The Reapers have not directly attacked Omega, but their presence in the galaxy and the technology brought with them has an impact on the fate of the station, notably with the creation of monsters known as Adjutants, terrifying and brutal foes used to make fights on Omega a little more unfair.

History:
Born to a respectable family with a long-standing record of being good and honoured soldiers, Nyreen had a typical turian upbringing. At the age of fifteen, she entered into military service, starting with a year of bootcamp. Like nearly every turian in the Hierarchy, she was eager and prepared to cover years of public service. She was physically competent and smart, setting her up for success as a soldier, where she excelled and served admirably regardless of where she was assigned. Nothing could seriously slow her, not until the emergence of her biotic potential. Turians are often skeptical of the unknown, including when it comes to the perceived unpredictability and long-standing social stigma associated with their own biotics. As such, the long-standing tradition of isolating biotic fighters, assigning them to Cabal units for the sake of precise, ruthless, and feared fighting claimed Nyreen, and she was swept away from the duties she previously had found to be most fulfilling.

Nyreen's time with her Cabal was brief and unproductive. It wasn't long before she left the turian military system entirely, working around the galaxy as a mercenary for a few years before finally "losing her way" to Omega. It was the ideal place for someone of skill to make any sort of impact, not to mention Nyreen lucked out early on. The infamous Aria T'Loak took an early interest in her, helping her develop her biotic abilities, learning the most effective ways of using them with in conjunction with the formidable skills she already possessed. The interest progressed past that of mentor and mentee into an intense but ill-fated romance, with Nyreen eventually taking her leave. Unbeknownst to T'Loak, Nyreen stayed on Omega, joining on with a small but efficient merc band by the name of the Talons and quietly working with them. After some time had passed, in the grand scheme of things in the galaxy, Omega was the victim of a hostile takeover by Cerberus, a human terrorist group known for violence and with a contemporary mission of controlling the Reapers and making humans the top species in the universe. While T'Loak and many other prominent figures on Omega fled the occupation, the Talons and the vast majority of the civilian population were left to be controlled. It was during this time that Nyreen established leadership over the Talons, changing them from a small and scattered merc band into a well-organized team, focusing on security for Omega's "innocents" and doing what could be done to rebel against the occupation. She proved to be an effective and adored leader, so that when T'Loak, with the help of one Commander Shepard, launched an assault to retake Omega, she and the Talons were valuable allies.

Personality:
Fiercely moral is a both kind and accurate definition of Nyreen Kandros. She is as persistent as she is compassionate, a wonderful leader and a notable soldier. As much as uncertainty and a sense of being lost are definite themes in her personal history, she has an immeasurable sort of strength about her, and does what she can to be unwavering in her convictions.

As a turian, she's always been taught about the good of the whole and honour. Not every turian embodies morals the way she does, though, or takes such pride in their place in the galaxy. As a soldier, she knows her duties and takes responsibility for whatever might happen. Service means giving of yourself for others and much of Nyreen's personality focuses on this. Once she's given value to something, she intimately understands the potential cost of fighting for it, but instead of being daunted and letting that stop her, it serves as her fuel. During the Cerberus occupation of Omega, the idea of people less armed and less skilled then her left to their own devices to be bullied, tortured, or killed by Cerberus upset her greatly. It was injustice she couldn't stand. Even with as little power as she did have as some merc from a small band, Nyreen at some point promised herself that she would do anything and everything to right Omega again. There were innocent people involved - people who had fallen by society's wayside, or who had done a questionable thing or two in their past, but they were still innocent, still civilians. And she was a skilled soldier who knew when she could be of use.

That resilient self-awareness, knowing exactly what she's capable of is characteristic of Nyreen throughout her life. However, that doesn't mean she hasn't lost it before, or spent longer than she would have liked looking for something to do and to reassure herself with. She's a creature driven by purpose, most definitely, and being removed from service to train as a biotic specialist took away more of her sense of purpose than she could have previously known. The biotic abilities had caught her off guard to begin with and were certainly unwanted in an old, traditional turian family. Biotics are the sign of an untrustworthy killer - and that's the absolute last thing Nyreen Kandros ever wanted or would want to be. It was a distressing time in her life, to say the least. Wilfully abandoning what she knew to be the best place for her ambitions and values, she left the turian military to do freelance mercenary work for a while. It wasn't perfect, but it was paying work and helped to take bad people out of the galaxy, so it worked. Even so, that sense of having lost her purpose stuck with her well into her stay on Omega, even after Aria took an interest in her. Now Aria - Aria is her own thick, twisting chapter in Nyreen's life, and she's had an undeniably large impact on the turian. On one hand, she was a mentor, someone who saw the obvious fighting potential in Nyreen and sought to cultivate that. After all, Nyreen's good enough to make a formidable ally. On the other, the undeniable attraction Nyreen felt for the asari was reciprocated, and Nyreen's nature - to see the good in everyone - led her to believe that maybe it wasn't just that she needed Aria, but that Aria needed her. For as focused and determined and moral as she is, Nyreen forever retains a sense of optimism, absolutely certain that there is good in nearly every situation. Anything without that good is one that needs to be changed. Losing her way, losing her sense of self under the grand display that was Aria and Omega, that was something that needed to be changed, too. She came out of it with a better sense of self that she'd had, though, and that was important. By the time she'd been working the Talons long enough to be considered their leader, Nyreen knew herself better than before, solid in her ways and capabilities, but just as kind- and true-hearted as she always intended to be. It maybe wasn't a change she'd ever anticipated, but it worked.

Nyreen's morals, her resolute and very black-or-white sense of what is right or wrong in the galaxy is what makes her an excellent leader. A naturally keen mind and good head for tactical thought doesn't hurt, either. Loyal and caring - to the point of showing hesitation only to the enemy made by turning innocents into monsters, something she'd seen happen to her friends - she's not slowed by much, but the things she is slowed by tend to be the most distressing of situations. She falters, but then lets it fuel her, pairing that heart she wears so plainly open with her raw determination to do right by the universe.
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations: As part of military training, Nyreen is confidently skilled in weapons and hand-to-hand combat, benefited by her natural leadership skills. In addition, her biotics grant her some extra talents, namely: a short-lived protective field and biotically enhancing grenades. Any weakness shown by her is generally when her compassion or self-sacrificing nature get the better of her, or when confronted with particularly scarring things.

Inventory: her omni-tool, a handful of grenades, and her assault rifle.
Appearance: since Nyreen is a turian, she is best described as a tall, slim, avian alien with a tiny waist and deadly leg spurs. although most turians wear facial paint to designate where it was they came from, Nyreen has adopted the white and red markings specific to those dedicated members of the Talons. also, she is pretty hot for an alien.
Age: unknown - mature but not old, based on implications and comparisons to other turians, est. ~35-50.

AU Clarification: N/A.

Log Sample:
Turians were beings of action. Nyreen was a being of action. Trained by the best soldiers in the galaxy and having that supplemented by one of the strongest biotics she'd ever seen and it was reasonable to assume that she preferred action to inaction. Even on Omega, there had always been things to do. Training to be done, information to be gathered, people to watch out for.

The same couldn't be said for the Tranquility, at least as far as she could tell. She could pace all she wanted but nothing happened and nothing seemed likely to happen and it was going to make her go crazy before too long, she just knew it. The ship was lovely, Nyreen would give it that, but not her pace. There didn't need to be a raid every day, always a mission to advance, just something.

At this rate, she was going to need a hobby.

And explaining to the humans what precisely she was and why she was completely unplaced by them (despite Cerberus, she'd had good allies in the humans who had found their way in with the Talons, and the great Commander Shepard was alright enough) didn't exactly seem like her idea of fun. A galaxy full of chaos and the best she could hope for was people used to aliens while she waited for something to happen.
Comms Sample:
Don't get me wrong, I'd take peace over a state of chaos any day, but there's something a little jarring about being in a place this empty. Where I was last, unless you were taking a backroute, you couldn't turn your head without seeing someone. This ship... it doesn't feel right. But maybe that's just me, used to too many people and close-knit communities. [Maybe 'close-knit' isn't the word for Omega, but she never lacked for company when she was still properly affiliated with the Hierarchy, either. Nyreen sighs, the rumble of her flanging betraying a sort of exhaustion, deep-seated, but something she's determined to push through. But then she smiles, facial plating lifting in such a way that she almost looks serene, for a big old avian alien.]

Is anyone else looking for company or am the only one on this ship?
